If you are from Oregon, or possibly this crazy story made the news in other realms, you might remember the story of SNOWBALL the deer that a family was raising in their backyard and then through a turn of events that I can't clearly remember, the deer was removed, but was not able to return to the wild... thats about all I remember about Snowball- I'm not a pet lover remember...
Anyway, driving home today on some semi-country roads, Grant and I spot a beautiful fawn crossing the road with her baby close behind, luckily I stopped and the opposing car stopped so they could cross safely. Grant eyed the deer, and here is our conversation that follows..
Grant: Mom I want to get a deer, can you get me that deer?
Mom: No, we can't keep deer as pets, they belong outside in the "wild" ( he probably did not know what this meant)
Grant: But Mom, I want to get a deer so I can ride on it, PLEASE!
Mom: Grant, that is not possible, we can't keep deer in our backyard, they are not meant to be pets.
Grant: But Mom, you can have all my monies to buy the deer and I have a lot! ( He has the equivalent of about $4 in loose change)
Grant: Mom, I even have money I "found" from Grace, we could use that to buy a deer.
Note: Grace recently lost another tooth, the fairy gave her $1.50 I think... and since Grace is not really obsessed with money, and therefore leaves it around the house, Grant must have "found " it and put it in his collection. I choose not to police this...
No, we are not going to take in another animal, and definitely not an animal that is not meant to be a pet.

Ok Ashley, I am going to pee from laughing so hard. Your Grant is hillarious. There is an animal safari down in winston oregon off of I-5 on the way to California. Your cute little grant can ride wild animals there. If I remember right you can ride a camel and maybe even an elephant. It sounded really cool and everyone I know that went there so loved it.
Of course, I wouldn't have added "Hedgehog" to my own pet collection. I can see why the whole "which pets belong in the house" line might be a touch fuzzy. But the important lesson in this post is that finders are, apparently, keepers. Awesome. :)
