It seems our house is broken.. well, not broken, just that several things have decided to break or need fixing/painting NOW. I had plans to have a door installed out the back deck that REALLY shuts. The current one has driven me crazy since day 1- its not set in the jam quite right, so if you don't work with it for atleast 2 minutes, you can't shut and lock the door. I've finally had it and I went to Home Depot and signed up for a measurement consult. I picked out a great door that has the blinds INSIDE! I know this seems simple, but if you consider that I'm a bit crazy with OCD when it comes to safety, you'll understand, that I take great comfort in turning on my house alarm, shutting all windows, blinds, and anything else I can secure. So, I was excited to get a door with blinds inside. That plan was going fine. With a few bumps... We've been looking at the exterior of our house and thinking that we'd need to repaint next year, but as summer has gone on, I don't think we're going to be able to wait until next year. Its starting to look really faded, and the longer we wait, the more damage may be done.
I'm excited for new paint, I have some great ideas on paint. The only problem is that Ryan and I will have to agree on a paint color, and that is probably harder than getting out of Iraq. My ideas will all get vetoed, Ryan will waffle on what he thinks may look good ( without any concrete ideas, I might add- this is the problem- he just wants to veto my ideas).
So this morning it looked like we were headed toward replacing a back door, and the side door out to the garage ( its had a cat door in it since we moved in, its also warped in the jam and needs to be replaced). I thought it would all fall in line with house painting, but, tonight Ryan BROKE the garage door. ( not really). The garage door has been shutting only with force recently, so we should have known we were on the last leg. Tonight I heard this very loud sound from the garage- I find this strategy works best: "Ask myself- where are the kids? Could they have anything to do with that loud sound? Is anyone crying - not whining, really crying like they're in pain? Is Grace running in here to tattle on what Grant has most recently done?- if all the above are answered with a "no", then I know its Ryan, and I know he's working with tools, and that tells me to stay away unless I hear him crying ( not shouting- thats just anger or frustration, I want to stay away then).
But I didn't hear any of that either, so I casually sauntered out to the garage, and he was calmly examining the garage door spring- which just broke. GREAT! The cascading domino of home improvment continues to go on.....
** oops, it looks like the photo is posted up top. I went on to the Sherwin Williams site and tried to find a house I liked to put virutal paint on. ( I know, this is not my house- and I'm not crazy about the brown shed color on the side, but I like the main color and trim)
Lobbying may not work, but if anyone has some ideas on color combos, let me know. I hate the color blue in house color. Don't suggest blue.

Ummm...yeah...totally agree with you!! This has been the year for "breakdowns" at our house too!! And...we even painted our house. Although, I am absolutely no help in the paint selection area because after buying $50 in samples...we ended up just painting the exact same color...what a waste!! But, it looks good I guess...nice and clean looking
I am a fan of grey when it comes to houses but where you live you may not beable to see your house 9 months out of the year. All of the houses on my street are a different shade of beige if you want to go with the trendy. I absolutely love a rusty red. Color hues are so hard. Just imagine if you have pigment issues like me. From loving painting canvases and coloring hair I can see what is wrong with undertones. Really drives me crazy!
